Wine Country

The Languedoc is a rich wine producing area.  The main regions in our area are Corbières and Fitou.  If you go a little further south you come across Côtes du Roussillon and at Collioure you will find Banyuls.

In all the villages you will find opportunities for tasting and purchasing the local wine - and in a restaurant a carafe of the local wine is usually good and good value.

There are signposted Corbières and Fitou routes.

As well as red, white and rosé, there is sweet Muscat wine, such as that shown here from Rivesaltes, which is on the way to Perpignan just a bit south of Tuchan.

At Tuchan there is a smart cooperative which is the largest Fitou cooperative in the country.  Here you can try and if you wish buy a good variety of local wines.

Terra Vinèa at Portel des Corbières is an amazing cellar in what was originally a gypsum mine.  It has 30 km of tunnels 80 metres below the ground.  There is also a restaurant there.  Look here or here for more info. Portel is on the way to Narbonne.
